Bulk hair bobbles in biodegradable cornstarch bag.

We’re always looking for new ideas to reduce our impact on the environment and are continually looking for materials to offer more sustainable wholesale supplies to our customers.  As part of our ongoing quest, we’re pleased to announce that we have 3 new environmentally friendly packaging bags now in stock and 2 other lines coming soon.

Currently in stock we have 3 cornstarch bags available as general packaging for your business to use for any purpose you wish.  We currently have 3 sizes in stock 1474 (8x7 cm), 1475 (15 x 12 cm), and 1476 (18 x 15 cm).  Each bag is available in a pack of 50, and has a self seal adhesive strip to secure any contents placed inside.

From April, we will have 2 lines of bulk pack elastics available in cornstarch packaging bags (8086 and 8087).  These bags look and feel like plastic, and have the same protective properties, but the great news is that unlike plastic, these bags are 100% biodegradable.

Here are the benefits of cornstarch bags vs plastic bags...

  • Cornstarch bags decompose in around 2 months in a composting environment compared to plastic bags which can take over 1000 years to breakdown.

  • Cornstarch is a renewable source as it can be replanted over and over again as opposed to petroleum based plastic which is made by burning fossil fuels.

  • Approximately 65% less energy is used in the production of cornstarch bags vs. petroleum based plastic bags.

  • Cornstarch bags are cheap to produce as they are made from a by-product of the corn plant which is typically grown for animal feed.

Our cornstarch bags are suitable for home composting and are printed with the compostable seedling logo which means that they are certified by European Bioplastics according to the European standard EN 13432, which means that the product will fully biodegrade into water, biomass and CO2.

Although it is a small step in our ongoing sustainable journey, it is one that we are very excited about here at Inca UK.
